Case Study
Abergavenny
Market and
Town Hall
In celebration of the Abergavenny Town Council's 125th anniversary and in alignment with the mayor's vision for a more accessible and inclusive community, the creation of an immersive 3D model of the Abergavenny Market & Town Hall was initiated. This innovative project aims to highlight the multifaceted nature of this unique space, which serves as a community hub, library, tourist information center, market, and borough theatre.
Project Overview

The Abergavenny Market & Town Hall is a pivotal location within the community, accommodating various events and services. With a capacity to host over 500 individuals at once, the space plays a crucial role in community engagement. However, with the recent implementation of Martyn's Law, which requires enhanced safety documentation for venues, the need for an accessible reference tool became evident.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the immersive 3D model include:

-
Accessibility: Providing a comprehensive overview of access points and layout for the community, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of ability, can navigate the space confidently.
-
Reference Tool for Facilities Management: Serving as a digital document for the facilities team, outlining the contents and layout of the building for efficient management and maintenance.
-
Insurance Documentation: Offering a visual archive of the property’s contents to assist in insurance claims or assessments in the event of an incident.
-
Compliance with Safety Regulations: Creating the necessary documentation under Martyn's Law to ensure that the venue meets safety requirements.
Features of the Immersive Model
The 3D model captures the diverse elements of the Abergavenny Market & Town Hall, including:

-
Interactive Navigation: Users can explore the model, identifying key features such as entrances, exits, restrooms, and emergency routes.
-
Visual Documentation: High-resolution visuals provide detailed insights into the layout and facilities available, enhancing understanding for both visitors and staff.
-
Archival Resource: The model serves as a historical document, preserving the architectural and functional aspects of the space for future reference.
Community Impact
The introduction of this immersive model is expected to significantly benefit the community by:

-
Enhancing Accessibility: Individuals with disabilities or other mobility challenges can better plan their visits, reducing anxiety and fostering independence.
-
Promoting Community Engagement: By showcasing the various functions of the space, the model encourages community members to utilize the market and town hall for events and services.
-
Supporting Safety and Compliance: With an easy-to-navigate reference tool, the facilities team can ensure the venue adheres to safety regulations, thereby enhancing the overall safety of attendees.
Conclusion
The creation of the immersive Abergavenny Market & Town Hall model is a landmark project that embodies the town council’s commitment to inclusivity and community well-being. As a celebration of the council’s rich history and a step toward a more accessible future, this model not only serves practical purposes but also enriches the community's connection to its shared space. By leveraging modern technology, Abergavenny is paving the way for a more inclusive, safe, and engaging environment for all residents and visitors.
A comment from our founder, Leighton Morris
"We are immensely proud of the immersive 3D model the team has built of Abergavenny’s Market and Town Hall! This model goes beyond just a virtual tour—it’s a powerful tool that provides full accessibility to help every member of our community navigate the property with ease. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning, this model showcases all the building's facilities, making it easier for everyone to explore and feel confident. This is a major step toward making Abergavenny more inclusive and accessible for all.
Having a passionate Town Clerk (Sandra Rosser) and Mayor who truly understand the importance of inclusion and accessibility has been an incredibly refreshing experience. Rather than questioning why these changes are necessary, their approach has been one of asking how we can make it happen.
Their commitment to ensuring that Abergavenny is accessible to everyone has fuelled this project from the start, and their vision aligns perfectly with our mission. It’s rare to find leadership that instinctively prioritises breaking down barriers and working with them has made all the difference in bringing our immersive model to life."
